Happy New Year!!!

I've been trying to write this blog posting all day but I needed to clean the kitchen three million times, not to mention drink some mimosas and take a nap with the Hurricane. There is no better way to celebrate the New Year than napping with She Who Is Only Still Every Fourth Tuesday At 3:00 PM. Anyway, I didn't want the first day of 2008 to come and go without a post from me, even though by the time you get this I will be back on Weight Watchers and crabby as hell.

I just love New Year's Eve. Not only because we always have a big party, complete with lots of kids and friends and neighbors and family members. But also, it's like being given a brand new journal --with each crisp white page waiting to see what will be written on it. What will we all write in the Book of 2008? I love that feeling of not knowing...

I've been very sentimental through these holidays. I think saying goodbye is a process for me, despite all the practice I had at saying goodbye as an army brat. Knowing that we are moving in March to Long Island has made our last holidays in this house a teeny bit bittersweet. We've been so happy here. This house is filled with our joyous memories. Seriously, this is such a happy house. I wish you all could have been here last night --I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. There might have been some pig noises, but I'll deny it if you say so.

We have, thanks mostly to my dear friend (and Baby-Sitter Extraordinaire) Steffi, almost 600 pictures from last night. Some of them are even of ME. And in some of them I don't even have my eyes closed.

Don't get worried, I won't post them all. But just look at a few--humor me--and then tell me if you don't think that this house and this group of people know how to usher in a New Year. I wonder if they'll come to New York for the Yankee version of this party next year?

I have no idea who this person is. He showed up with his wife and kids and it turned out later that he belonged to a neighbor. But the hilarious thing is that NO ONE knew him and it did not make a bit of difference. Welcome, friend.

Um, this is Jane. This is what she wore, despite the fact that it fell to freezing later. This is her Sparkler Dance.

(Mercifully for you, Blogger won't let me post any more pictures. There are some classics --like there was this one little girl there who was the spitting image of Cindy Lou Who and her mom had even put her in a dress like that? Oh, my gosh, she was so cute. But I guess I shouldn't be posting cute little girls on here (other than my own) (since everyone knows I am Armed and Dangerous) because of the Pedophiles. I know they are out there. (I will freaking kill you if you come near me or my little community. I'm serious. Kill. And I probably out-weigh you, you scrawny pencil-necked geek.) (Oh, look! I digress. New Year, but some things never change.) But maybe it's like a location joke.

(Anywho! Maybe I should shut up now.)

I think I'm ready for the next chapter in the book of our lives now. As I was mopping the floor today and putting out our unbelievable recycling (Dudes, it's a personal best) I thought a lot about how I'm truly ready. Now we just have to get through the sale of this house and the actual move. But it's all new somehow --even if I hope we get to take our old friends with us.

I have this feeling that 2008 is going to be a great year. Happy New Year.

Ooh, what lovely pictures!

(And SHOCK. One of me? When did that happen. ;) )

Last night was a blast. Did I mention I love your camera?

Loved the picture of you and Ana. I remember that exact moment, too.

Oh, I get it. My invitation got "lost in the mail". *sniff*

JUST KIDDING. I know what you mean about being sentimental. We have plans to sell our house this summer and move closer to the school.... *sigh*

No, REALLY, I had a RIVETING evening last night. Go read about it.

P.S. We can be crabby Weight Watchers together.
Kicking and screaming - that's how I'm going to my WW meeting on Monday.

Is Beloved Daughter wearing the same T-shirt that Scout wore in the previous post? That is something my kids would have done, if we had had a dog.

Sounds like it was a fun bash! I myself was snoozing on the couch at 11:15pm...

Looks like a great time was had by all. You remind me of my friend Shauna - who also has a happy house, and hosts gatherings of the most enjoyable nature! Happy New Year!
