The Problem

The problem with going to bed at ten o'clock --and let's face it, it would have been earlier but my nine-year-old was having a hard time falling asleep (the boy she has a wicked bad crush on gave her a tiny stuffed monkey for Valentine's Day and she couldn't sleep for happiness)--is that here I am at 3:00 in the morning wide awake and, um, HUNGRY.

I extricated myself from the orange tabby pride on my bed and went downstairs and came back up with... well... organic mini peeled carrots.

Yes, carrots.

I realize that this flies in the face of all you know about me.

But see, the thing is that while my husband has been breaking all kinds of Great Valentine records and using his time away from us to fund this frat party, he's also been working out in the hotel gym. He's buff.

Me? Not so much. Not so... AT ALL. Not.

And even though I have done Weight Watchers (I say that in the "I signed up and paid them money" sense) and vowed time and time again to figure out if there is an exercise on earth I can do without my really messed up foot (almost a year now--but who's counting?) (Bitter? Not me.), the truth is that I am out of shape and chubby and looking a lot like my paternal grandmother.

It just seems like I should be trying harder. I've always said that I know my husband is the right man for me because he inspires me to try to be a better person. (He's always said that he knows I'm the right woman for him because I make him madder than anyone ever has in his entire life. Seems a good trade.)

So, here I go, trying harder. I know I've said this before. But THIS time I really mean it. No, REALLY.

Dudes. I am eating CARROTS and there are perfectly good gummy bears downstairs.

Must be love.

Must be. I totally do not buy that WW hogwash that "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".

Water aerobics, maybe? No weight or strain on your poor abused foot, increasing range of motion, and quite literally no sweat!

I got hit upside the head by the Hungry Fairy at 3:00 this morning. Can't be something in the water supply, as you're on the acquifer, and I think mine comes right out of the lake up here [ewwww!]

Lifting a glass of 2% milk in your direction. You're a smart woman, and a persistent one. You'll find something that turns out to be more fun than you can imagine.

Now, if you're still awake, go pick up your needles and *knit*!
I've eaten a whole bag of those carrots. I was still hungry, but I felt too sick to eat anything after that.

It bugs me that I can wake up hungry every single night and still not be seeing the pounds slide off.

Water aerobics is a GREAT idea. I used to do that when I was in medical school, and loved it.

Your paternal grandmother was beautiful. As are you.

*popping Valentine's chocolate into my mouth* You know, my husband loves me as is.. and I'm sure yours does to.. but blah blah blah.. I know exactly what you're saying. I'm an addicted Entrecard dropper and I sometimes blogs catch my eye and I read them. I love yours! Happy carrot eating! I'm getting rid of this chocolate..by eating it..but it won't be here when it's gone.. right?

Good on you, Barb! Carrots can be very yummy.

(and if you dip em in blue cheese or ranch dressing -fat free, of course- they taste even better! ketchup works just as well.)

Good job, Barb! I love baby carrots. They have that same satisfying crunch that I get from eating chips. (Unfortunately, they don't help with salt cravings like chips, but still...)

By the way, did I tell you my favorite treat when I must have something sweet? Sugar free Jello pudding. Mix the pack with skim milk and pour into 4 equal servings. Then, you can top with a HUGE spoon full of Cool Whip Free (has to be Free) and it's still only 1.5 point!!!

I make a pack and put the extras into the fridge. I have snacks for 4 days while the girls are eating ice cream.

Activity points...I'm afraid I'm not the best here. I've done the plan (and lost over 60 pounds) almost exclusively on managing my food points. I am, however, down to the point where I'm going to have to add APs because I can't fill up on the points I'm down to anymore. Sigh! I do know that an hour of Wii Sports is worth 2 APs :)

Remember that the Activity Points don't necessarily have to before formal exercise. It's about activity. Gardening, vacuuming, walking the dog...keep track of it all because it all counts.

I'm back to my WW too. I lost 8 lbs then gained 4 back. ::sigh::

I have joint problems - knees, neck etc. Yoga works pretty well for me. I keep wanting to try water aerobics but there is that whole bathing suit isssue...
